This scheme is very well received by the consumers. As on 22 February 2023, the count of consumers who have already installed the solar rooftop panels is 79,564 and they have already generated 1387 MW electricity through the solar rooftop panelsFive years back in 2016-17, there were only 1,074 consumers having the capacity of generating only 20 MW. But it has increased significantly in the last five years and has gone up to 1,389 MW. In the current financial year after April 2022 till date 356 MW solar electricity is addedConsumers get a huge grant from the Central government for the solar energy generation under the Solar Rooftop Scheme. By using the solar power, consumer uses less electricity consequently reducing his electricity bill. If the consumer generates excess electricity apart from his personal use, he can give the excess solar power in Mahavitaran’s grid and in turn the consumer gets discount in his electricity bill by Mahavitaran. The expenditure of installing a solar panel is returned in 4-5 years but the benefit of the solar rooftop panels is for 25 years. Therefore, this scheme is very popular amongst the consumers.
