It is brought to the notice of this office by the Chief Engineer (Electrical), Bombaythat our billing centres sometime charge and recover electricity duty from the consumers at incorrect rate higher
in the majority of the cases due to misclassification, with the result that the consumers approach our office or the proper authority in the Govt. and get the rate of duty revised and consequently ask for ref und for excess payment of duty paid in the past

      The refund order (specimen enclosed for ready reference) Is issued by the Government only after due verifications of the past records. This refund is required to be passed on to the consumer promptly.

      This is not being done by our billing centres mostly due to inadequacy of funds.

      All the field offices contrlling the billing centres are, therefore, requested to comply with instructions of the Chief Engineer (Electrical) or his representative in so far as they pertain to adjustment of electricity duty. To avoid complaints from the consumers, the field officers are requested to send their specific intimation for the requisite amount to the W.M.Section in Head Office for remittance of extra amount on the basis of such refund orders received by them from the Chief Engineer (Electrical).
